Default September, 2007: Cliff Dwelling

Hello...

Time for the new theme and this month: Cliff Dwelling

This could be single home/hut/tent/structure or a town built on a cliff face. On the ocean... in a canyon.. at night... in the evening. But there must be a cliff. And a dwelling. Inhabitants optional.

good luck!

edit: winners announced!

As usual, this was an extremely difficult month for us to judge! We really had to be strict to the guidelines or else there would have just been too many cool images to decide between. Thanks to all for participating! There were really some beautiful submissions... and lots of cool cliff 'fortresses' and cliff 'outposts'.

Winners: send me a PM for info on how to collect your prizes.

-Alex

Hello, is this the correct place to post pic for the contest I'm new to this form stuff? I used photo shop to put this together, its my first try at this style of digital painting. This was a great theme and a challenge, can't wait for the next one.

When a person has won a top 5 place before, is it possible to win a second time, in another month?

I guess it's nice for people to have artwork they've made and submitted before elsewhere that fits the "current month's theme" instead of taking up the challenge and making a new piece, regardless how great the quality of the picture is.

Since you are so confused I'll gladly try and make a direct example so you hopefully will be less confused.

Do you see Mr. Suirebit submission for this months contest?

He has submitted that picture before elsewhere (CG Society) + likely other sites too along with his website.

In other words, he made this picture, before he was aware of this month's "theme", which is "Cliff Dwelling". He spend 0 minutes on this month's contest and just submitted a picture he had already made.

I'm well aware people have done and do this for every month's contest.

Oh and just so no one gets offended, it wasn't an attack on Mr.Suirebit, I just used him as an example.

Personally I think it's cheap to just do a contest like that since you put in 0 effort. Shouldn't a "Challenge" mean you actually make an effort to try and create something new, else what's the point.

Sir A.Alvarez could just name the next 50 themes for the upcoming months, if you don't take up the current months challenge.

This is just my personal opinion, I'm sure alot disagree, but I always salute every single person who really make an effort to try challenge themself to become better artists no matter what skill level you are.

Default cliff dwelling 2

I tried a color change to see what effect I would get, this looks pretty dark and scary. The water fall looks like lava now which I thought was pretty cool.
