Default Byrons Poly Tools Help

Hi,

I recently got a copy of the humanoid modelling DVD and it says you need byrons poly tools.

Does byron's poly tools work with maya 8.5? and if so is it really necessary to buy or can i cope easily with out it??

And do professionals in the industry use this plug-in ?? or will using it be getting me into bad habbits?

thankyou
sorry if the questions are asked alot / stupid

Last i heard, Byron's poly tools has not been updated since v.6 and does not appear to be updated any time soon. With that said though i don't think you'd need it to follow along. It may just take a bit longer to do the same things with maya's default tools rather than the plugin. For a newer plugin that is similar to what BPT was, check out NEX. at : http://draster.com/

Amazing tool from checking out the trial version.

Hope this helps,

George

Maya has most of it built in now if not all, insert edgeloop, split egedloop, slide edgeloop, slect edgeloop, slectedge ringloop ect..
I did that tutorial when it was new with BPTools .
So i can tell you if you have a newer version of maya there is no need for the plugin now.

The instructor is calling it Soft Transformation Tool, what did Autodesk name this feature in Maya 2010?

Double click the move tool bring up additional options like Soft selection and reflection. This is Also where you will find preserver UVs , move along Normal ect.. All very useful.

Thanks for all this help. I have to say this though, I wish that these instructors would just do the lesson using default tools so that we can use Maya the way it comes after purchase. Most times we the user have to go and try and find these extra things that are not there when you need them.

It would be a different thing if they included the tools that are mentioned throughout the lessons that they prepare. i am now thinking what is so wrong with Maya's default tools that they can never just use those while instructing a class.

Most of those tools like Byron Poly Tools are always set up for PC computers never Mac. So this is why I wish that the instructors would just use the default tools within Maya for God sake.

Sorry for venting, it's that i am on a mac and every time I've trusted the Gnomon videos, there's always a tool outside of Maya that we have to go and find.

Now if they made these tools for both platform I would not have this opinion at all which brings me right back too the default tools in Maya, what is the big deal not to use them while making these tutorials.

Again I am very sorry to vent here.

I agree that it is annoying to have to stop a tutorial and go finding a plugin especially with mac to confuse things.
But these instructors are showing how they work in a production setting where time is money and deadlines are just around the corner.
