Default December, 2012: Ice Hotel

Hi all...

So last month was hot and this month is cold! Winter is here and if you didn't know, there are actually real ice hotels in the world. Google it! So this month's contest is to create a room in such a place, be it the bar, lobby, lounge, bedroom, etc. Clearly this is a challenging theme for texturing/shading to create realistic ice shaders. Just watch the Lich King cinematic a few times for inspiration!

This month's theme: Ice Hotel

edit: winners announced!

Good luck!

-Alex

Default Opportunity to learn shader workflow

Yeah, its hard time for texturing. I will try to simulate an ice cube first, then a big HOTEL.
good luck every one. Happy CHRISTMAS

Cool theme. The snow and ice shaders will be tricky but gives lots of room to play with light.

I found this blog that has some photos of some epic ice hotels. Good inspiration for all.

Smile New to the contests

Hey guys,

I am new to this site and heard about the contests! I wanna give it a try!

I have started working on a ice material and wanna share it with you guys/gals and get some feedback. Not sure if were supposed to do this on this thread but here is a link to my material. It needs to be more translucent for sure.

Good luck to all!

Good luck to all!
Try the WIP (work in progress) thread, http://forums.thegnomonworkshop.com/...splay.php?f=20
it will get some great feedback there.

The material so far has a good base, but you'll need reflections, refractions, light transmission, distortion and Translucency control. I think someone earlier in this thread linked a website with pictures to a very nice Ice hotel, try to emulate the ice in there.

I didn't realize the Gnomon forum had a WIP thread. I already started on over on cgtalk trying to find a good ice shader setup here.

Also some progress on my blog.

Ok, back to work. Having fun with this one.
