Default Vertex alignment

I was goin through Gnomon Workshop's Body Modeling For Games DVD.....the guy was selecting some verts and aligning them with the desired vertex. Actually He was selecting verts he want to align and then was selecting the axis (which was turning yellow) and then just selecting the final vertex to with he wanted to align and all the verts were aligning properly. I tried out the same technique but it wasn't working. Any idea what he was doing....?

if it's in maya he probably selected the vertices he wanted to move, then click the axis he wants them aligned once (that axis turns yellow) now hold down the "v" key and middle mouse drag the selected vertices to the single vertex you want it to be aligned with and it should snap to the axis you want it to go to (that would be the axis which turned yellow)... or you could snap them all to that point by doing the same procedure without clicking any axis... hope that helps...
