Default How important is concept art?

I am working on some projects and having trouble with some of the character modeling. I got a 7-headed dragon I am working on. I have a picture I am working off but its perspective view and it's in a book, so I am not using it as an image plane. I blocked it out, where everything should go, works fine. But, when it comes to adding the detail it is not going so well. I am wondering if it is just because I am inexperienced or if I need concept art. I am a terrible drawer.

Any ideas or suggestions?

im skilled at drawing but never used it for modeling but i hope too soon
and im pretty good at modeling and i read that zbrush is as good for concept art as
drawing. so focus on anatomy human animal dragons have certain resemblence to dogs
as for multiple heads not my department look at zbrush central most those guys dont draw
its very common
alex alvarez made dvd its free to watch "the makeing of the gathering"

alphas if your not familiar with is very useful

polygroups for segragateing your model so you dont have to work with jags

and if your not useing a sculpting package well its tourture makeing a six headed dragon

pixologic has an pack of textures alphas so good luck

Hi blazek,

Well, for me, concept art is very important. I tell this for all people that want to enter in 3D world. I´m not a great drawer, but, before my 3D works, I make some roughts that help me to create, and/or to plan how the best way to model. Draw and traditional sculpt, can help you to understand better de shapes and the composition.

Some people think the most important is the tool (software), but I can´t agree.
