Default March, 2011: Planetary Arrival: Trantor

Hi all...

So, as some of you may know, they're finally making the Asimov Foundation series into a movie. Unfortunately, Roland Emerich is directing which to me seems a little wrong, but regardless... I'm sure that we will get some amazing visuals out of it. So one of the major locations in the books is Trantor, the center of rule for the galatic empire, 10,000 years in the future. This month you get to visualize what Trantor may look like from space/orbit.

This month's theme: Planetary Arrival: Trantor

If you haven't read the books... you must! They are amazing, although I recommend reading them in the order that they were written...

Good Luck!

edit: winners announced!

Thumbs up

Looks awesome! I will bring down my Mecha Design to perform my own visualization about The Planetary Arrival (Trantor). Thank you for the Sci-Fi theme.

And wish the best to all participants!

So are we restricted in that we have to do it from a space level? Or is that just an idea? I visualised a view from within the city.

I know these comps are very open to interpretation but I wanted to get it out the way before I start sketching out ideas

Look forward to see everyones entries! This will be my first gnomon comp!

If you search for the book under Google books, they let you read a lot of the first few chapters as a preview. The city/planet is described pretty well in the beginning.

Hey guys, so its my first time actually looking into this contest, and I think I'm going to give it a shot from now on every month, to hopefully get me some dvds
I was just wondering some technical issues, such as:
When is the art piece for the month due?
Where do we submit the art?

Thanks.

-Matt

E: I forgot to ask, how many entries can we submit?

This is going to be a tough on I think. Good luck to all those who take on the challenge.

Welcome to the forums! To answer your questions I would say aim to finish by the end of the month and you can submit your entry to this thread (for this contest).

I'm not sure of how many entries you are allowed to enter but I have seen people enter more than one and no one has battered an eyelid. Don't go mental and enter 100's though...
