Smile Robotic Whale

Hello all -

I'm new here, and thought I'd start out by posting some work that I've been wanting to return to for a good update and polish.

The below model was done in Maya, as was the environment, and is animated with a simple swim cycle. Critique is most welcome, as when I go back and spiff this guy up I'll be keeping in mind any of the con-crit I receive.

I'm planning on working on the textures especially, as well as updating a bit of the model itself.

I look forward to your feedback!

I would make the wings a bit less heavy. Is it suppose to be a submarine with people inside or a robot? Add more details (people, lights, fish, maybe a real whale to focus on the scale) to make the concept (story) stronger.

And your whale is one of them.

It's obviously like a steam-punk creature, am I rite?

If yes, would you like to add some water bubbles on top of it? It's perfectly nice if you're willing to make it into some still image rendering, even for your animation, it would be so life-like! Or even believable.

Keep on the good work, volta!

Ha! Thank you!

Yeah, I agree, need to make some more prominent bubbles.

It is very steam-punk, which is funny, because when I first designed it that was not in my mind. It did turn out that way, though!

Thank you for your comments, Toha!

Rafsan -

Thanks! It's robotic, without people, but some additional lighting from a spot or spill light on the robot would be cool. Maybe as if it is searching the sea floor for something.

I originally had the side fins smaller, but for some reason it just didn't balance. By lighter do you mean thinner, smaller, or a less "solid" structure?

Thanks for your comments!

Less solid. More like a fishbone, but mechanical.
