Default November, 2009: Raising the Spirits

Hi all,

and the theme for November is... Raising the Spirits.

A ceremony around a bubbling cauldron, campfire, in a temple, with one person or a bunch... up to you. Good luck!

edit:

winners announced!

winners will be contacted via email or PM.

-Alex

First create an image that you feel best represents the contest theme (every month has a new theme). Then post that image here. I've listed the contest rules below:

What are the rules?

Simply post examples of what you consider to be your most accomplished work in the forum thread. At the end of each month our judges will choose their favorite images which will then be announced in the forum.

FIRST PLACE: 25 Gnomon Workshop DVDs
SECOND PLACE: 15 Gnomon Workshop DVDs
THIRD PLACE: 10 Gnomon Workshop DVDs
FOURTH PLACE: 5 Gnomon Workshop DVDs

Winners will be contacted the first week of every month via the email address used at forum registration.

What criteria are used to pick the winner?

The winners are chosen based on our judges' personal criteria, however we often award prizes to artists whose CONCEPTS or IDEAS are excellent, regardless of technical execution. While first place awards tend to bias to a combination of concept AND technical merit, we often choose winners who show POTENTIAL. We love to see new artists emerge, and this is a good way to give artists exposure while rewarding them for their talents.

Did I answer your question?

Hey Ben,

How specific does it have to be to the initial idea. For instance, they mentioned it a campfire and cauldron in the description. Is there room to change things/remove details like that, or does it have to be part of the final image?

Thanks!
-Mike

Well, actually, I'm curious about that too. I think he threw that in there as a suggestion to get things started. There are normally no other specifications for your image other than the theme, which in this case is Raising the Spirits. Sorry Mike, that's the best I've got. Give it a day or so and see if Alex replies himself.

Those were just examples of possible things...

Raising the Spirits is the focus, the rest is up to us.

Can we have a theme next month that's not strait-forwardly related to death, destruction, darkness, or devils? Pretty please? ^.^

The initial take on this theme seems pretty dark but it can be fun and challenging to take a subject and go in a different direction than most would think of going. I can totally imagine a positive or funny spin on this subject. It's all about perspective.
