Default Thing Of Beauty - mkyboy

Not having much free time this month I decided to go for a more conceptual [not finished!] looking submission

My initial idea was to portray a pregnant women as the subject.. I have some female friends who aren't keen of the whole pregnant/swollen belly 'thing' that coupled with the idea of fertility, beauty etc .. these topics got me started. Although with a darker twist.

Here's a few initial ideas/shots showing the development..

Just bouncing some ideas around.. Looking forward to any comments

Cheers,
Chris

nice concept to explore, I would change her posture/pose as right now it conveying more of the burden than the beauty. Though accurate of probably the most comfortable position not the most attractive- it the spread legs with the limp arms that shows more of burden

so ideas on posture/pose that I though were pretty

Hi Alanise, thanks for the feedback. I guess this is supposed to play on the idea of beauty..I don't want it looking 'beautiful' in the literal sense. My friends either loved or hated being pregnant, not being able to get about, the dramatic changes to their bodies etc.. to them it was a burden! Although they love the results

I'm just trying something abstract for a change instead of literal interpretation of the theme. Like the crown of feathers bestowed as a gift of fertility, then flowing forms of emotional and hormonal changes. This juxtaposed against the woman in a serene/trance like state, succumbing to these forces. The ideas not concrete yet.. just kind of develops each time I work on it, if you know what I mean

Fantastic Idea!

I love that shapes on the upper part of the model a lot ... but the lower part is looking too "clutched together" or random.

LOL, that definitely is NOT a thing of beauty to me...LOL, but you can twist the themes a bit....especially if the sculptures turns out really well

Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder gaf!

I had some pretty grim and dark ideas at first, figuring most people would be going for a 'classic' beauty theme.. I'll push on for a few more hours with this and see what happens!

ChrRambow - I know what you mean - the mesh was initially deformed with some random Zbrush deformers.. I kind of combed the upper parts around the arms to see if I could get some nice flows and shapes.. the bottom bit definitley needs a tickle now too!

Cheers,
Chris
