Default Uv-trasfer Question

Hello Gnomon people , i have a question about UV transfering in Maya-
I have modeled a character and i have added joints and controls but i have forgotten to GIVE HIM uv-s , so i am thinking of duplicating all the geometry , adding the Uv-s on it and then somehow (i am hoping you guys know how) transfering the UV-s from it to the rigged mesh with no good UV-s , is that possible or i have to re-make the joints the weight painting and the controls

Try using: Diamant UV 1.0 Beta not only will it transfer the UV;s for you, its great at laying them out:
