Default What kind of pencil is Ian McCaig using in his DVD's?

Question pretty much sums it up. Would love to know what pencil he is using, has great variation in tone and good for shading. Does anyone know?

Here is the page with the sample clip:

Thanks in advance to any that may know.

PS. Before you jump to conclusions, I am not one of those people that feels they should copy everything someone else uses expecting it to make me a fantastic artist! I just love the line quality!

Hi snowconcept,

sorry I only bring you half of the answer, I dont know the exact word in english..
in French its called: "mine de plomb"
basically it's made of lead.. (or at least originally)
Sorry cant tell you more than that

Edit: as you said they have a good range of values.. can go really deep black, the drawback is that you cant really erase the darker values with a classic rubber, you 'll need a kneaded eraser.

It should say on his DVD in the extra section. I think it's the Mermaid one.

They're prisma color and like kakikukeko already said, woodless graphite pencils.
