Default Renderman

Let me first say that I learned Maya watching Gnomon videos years back when they first started coming out. They have served as a source of inspiration and knowledge, which is unparalleled.

That being said:
Are there any discussions about having some RSL or Renderman Pro tutorials? This is one area I have always felt is lacking in the community.

Mental ray is popular, and affordable as are a few others, but Renderman is way ahead of the competition. I realize that it costs money to get your hands on a license, but when I look at the houses I and so many of us want to work; Weta, ILM, Pixar, Dreamworks. These guys all use Renderman as their primary render software, as do many others.

It may just be that I work at a shot and render centric production house that I put so much value on this. Granted as soon as you start working at one of these houses you get up to speed fast, you have to. But there is always more to learn, and you can never review the basics with a master too many times.

Thumbs up

Iv been asking gnomon for renderman tutorial for some time now.
Renderman is fast and stable, it dose great displacement maps fast.
You should checkout 3Dlight its a renderman compliant render engine.
1 licenses is free for all use, more then that cost.
3Dlight is used in high end movies you have seen .
if you want to learn to write renderman shaders but cant afford renderman get 3dlight. Its just as good as renderman and abit faster at rendering disp maps.
The programmers for 3dlight are very helpful on the form , they actually answer you.

Perhaps I was unclear, I'm not looking for a rendering engine, or alternative to Renderman. I'm not looking for tutorials from other companies, books or papers.

I am requesting right here and now:

Gnomon, Can you please make some Renderman Tutorials, not Renderman for maya

Rnederman Pro & or RSL...
