Default November, 2008: Unmanned War Machine

Hi all...

So this month we have a special treat!

The amazingly talented Feng Zhu (http://www.artbyfeng.com) has agreed to choose the themes for 2D/3D and judge the contest! After disappearing to China for a couple years, Feng is returning to the LA scene and swung by today to catch up... and I roped him in to the contest.

So this month's 3D theme is.... Unmanned War Machine!

good luck!

Nice theme, though it's way out of my safe zone...I'm so in. I must face my fears sooner or later :P.

Default Good luck everyone!

There's so many directions I could see this going.

My first thoughts were of "War Machine" from Iron Man, just without a pilot. Then figuring that that'd be too easy to try and do (idealistically anyways, realistically it would be hard as heck), then thought about something like an unmanned military command center to represent something like the Soviet or German war machine being unmanned (lacking personnel). But that doesn't feel like it would fit into the contest to me.

Then I thought about a dog trained for war (the original unmanned war machines) and have decided to make a robotic version with the ability to move from quadriped form to a humanoid bipedal form. I think this might fit in with the spirit of the contest better and give me a reason to watch the Star Wars saga again (Droid reference dontcha know).

Disclaimer: Feel free to pillage this post for ideas :P

hey everyone,

I think as long as there are no humans involved in direct operation of this thing, it should be concerned unmanned right? I guess even UAVs and such count as well, even though they are controlled remotely.

looking forward to the images!

Oh Feng, what a pleasant suprise, I learned so much form your dvds quite a few years back. Really your work motivated me to get in to this industry a great deal dude.

May i just ask, if strong concept art/design documents are an advantage ? Or is it all about just the finished image here.
