Ooooh....good theme.

I'm seeing smoke and dirt and fire, maybe a horror theme like in Nightmare on elm street. But i'll have to ponder a while. Cant wait to get on with it though.

Good Luck All.

Hi! This is my entry for the Boiler Room contest of this month.
I have done this image in the last 2 days and for me has been a great amusement. Thanks very much Alex for the contest theme: it is a very good idea.

Marco

nice image there Marco.

Thats was quick. Don't know if your after C&C but i'll give it anyway.

2 things i notice in the image that could do with improvement are the lattern light seems a bit dim and not lit from within and the basin texture seems quite low res and this sticks out a bit. But great work for 2 days!

Maybe the guy likes it that way ... never been to the beach, all those matcho's with those tight swimsuits ...

you know, those guys showing off and make you think: Must be dangerous, so much TNT with such a short fuse.

Default First entry: WIP that I'll update as I go until the contest ends

Hey guys (and gals), this is my first time entering one of these contests and I just want to say it's an honor to compete against artists producing the caliber of work I've seen in previous contests.

Now, this will be a WIP post, and I'll be putting a new picture up as I get the image closer to completion so people can see the various incarnations. I've modeled and blocked out most of the scene how I want it and got some general lighting in to set the mood I'm going for, but there aren't any textures on anything yet. It's also a pretty low res render, but the final image will show a lot more of the detail I've put into the valve handles and things like that. I'll also remove images as they become silly and irrelevant.

Heavy tweaking will occur from this point forward.
Edit/Update 1: Semi-final lighting, still no textures, added Coal feeder's body (Why else would the boiler look sad? It's like its parent died and it watched) and will expand on this more soon.

Edit/ Update 2: Finished coal feeder's body, added shovel/ murder weapon, added in shelves and barrel near left wall (it felt too open and bare), textured head of coal feeder and will show close ups of various areas with the finished piece.

Edit/ Update 3: Pictures removed because I'm almost finished and I don't want the judges to have to deal with fifty of my images when they do the final Judging. See my latest post (page 3) for the most current incarnation. WIP images can be seen here.

Critiques most certainly welcome, PM's preferred so this thread doesn't get all mucked up.

hey everyone, my first post . Terrapin Warlord, i like what your going for, and think your capturing the mood very well, but if anything your peice lacks narritive, i would want to see what dirty little secrets your boiler room is hiding. Ide guess your probably planing on getting to this aspect anyway. Its a nice WIP though and i am glad to see people getting images out this early, it makes me want to get on and finish my work even sooner.
