Lost at Sea: Queen Ann's Revenge

Hi Everyone, I thought I'd post my latest W.I.P. "Queen Ann's Revenge" (Blackbeard's Pirate Ship)

I got the line drawings from this website:

From the line drawings in Blender I created a frame using bezier curves, and extruded a plane around it... I had tried just extrufing the verts, then found out I had issues placing the cannon, the curves make it easier to add detail down the line.









heres a vid showing what you can do in an hour just using the verts... quick, but problematic:



I then found out that your better off placing the verts from horizontally, rather than vertically :





Hopefully this will be useful, the mistakes I'm making are certainly helping me...

One other thing I've found out, is that you dont want to be too precise... this is my biggest hurdle, I need to remember to make it work first, and if the model can vary to make it work... all the better, the plans aren't the be all, end all.

Quick update.. been playing with the render and dof... not finished modelling

I like this one ...... Nice modelling .... Keep up man Is it an attacked and disabled pirate ship now lost at sea ? and half of the crew including the captain is dead ?

Its probably going to be foggy, with some rocks in the water... if that doesn't work, I'll try a storm...

Hmmmm been trying the new blender ocean Sim, and got to the point where creating the foam makes blender chash, had to go to a previous save because even opening the latest save, causes blender to crash in about 30 seconds, I'm at approx step 27-28 http://www.savetheoceansim.com/blog/?p=161

I'm going to use a soft body on the sails after I've added a bit of wear and tear:

good WIP, I'm really happy to see a blender user here !!!
it's very well executed.
but if you allow me a critique, I think your scene needs a more dramatic approach. It reminds me more of a simple trip by boat to a boat lost at sea.

Thanks daounin, I'm struggling a bit with this one... getting burnout from being on the PC all day at work then doing this when I get home... just experimenting at the moment, think it counts as procrastination

Soft body applied to the sails, glare added in blenders compositor... need to finish off the rigging, make the holes in the sails smaller, then give her a lick of paint
