Just getting something up to show where I am heading with my maquette.. getting down to work on it tomorrow, so assembly pictures will likely be coming in as I make headway.

Yep.. running a little behind.. work has been a bit hectic this week. Plan on finishing the sculpt in the next day or two.. paint shouldn't take more then a few hours since it is a bit smaller of a piece then usual.. but here is what it is at thus far. (gonna upload a few wip camera snaps of my work method in my gallery)

Usually I order it online from Art Supply Warehouse or the local store I used to use in Atlanta called Utrecht.. but as my funds were limited to only enough for a few lbs I picked it up at the local Michaels. It's called super sculpey (note.. firm sculpey works too but is very hard to work with, and the original sculpey which is a dull white is well.. garbage.. far to soft to really use for anything.)

You are ROCK, dude! In my country, we used to make a 3D first for anime figure. Resin is the best material for production I could ever used in old days.

Alright.. last pic before paint.. I need to let the turpenoid dry overnight so the sculpey doesn't run when I bake it.. but this is roughly the final sculpt.. minus a few details I need to add after baking and paint (ie the belt for the pants, shoelaces, and a touch of sanding on the base.) Feel free to take a peek in my photo gallery for this months challenge for more pictures of my process. And thank you everyone for the nice words.. it really is good to know people are behind me doing traditional sculpture work.

Yeah, if I was planning on making a bunch of duplicates I would have assembled it in pieces so I could make a bunch of resin molds. Thankfully with one off pieces like these, while they aren't as archival, they just come together so much faster.

Oh.. in case anyone was interested.. total work time thus far is about 11 hours.. paint will take a few more.. so I estimate total time invested will be about 13-14 hours

Final product you guys!! My first monthly contest is in the bag! I wish I had snapped a few more shots with my cam during painting but the batteries died mid paint and I didn't want to lose the batch of brown I had mixed for the pants.. so I just kept going.. but here he is.. all spiffy and painted.. Candle reading by his own light "aka - Wick"
