to clarify my second post

it is possible for us to come up with a character given an environment
but its as lopsided as giving us a character and expecting us to make an environment

and for all the ass kissers... seriously guys
you know your entitled to an opinion other than "wow good job, great Topic"

I'm fairly sure that the theme is just a suggestion to inspire, I think you can do what you want.

You can integrate character on the environment but still the theme is about the cave which is environment. Your character will be just an icing on the cake. It is just a minor add on to the environment and not the focus or the center of attention based from the theme. Just my honest opinion.

Alex gives plenty of leeway in these competitions. If you think this is strictly an environment challenge you need to rethink it. If you want to do something character based, create a spelunker or two and have them climbing around the cave, the environment itself would take an hour if you were focusing on the characters. Thats just one possibility, and I'm sure there are many more.

The key is to interpret "The Cave" however you want. The evaluation is going to be on quality, not how closely the image matches the subject matter (granted you probably cant do a dog fight between a bunch of fighter jets at 30,000 feet and get away with it, although maybe a dog fight in a cave...).

You're are definitely right about what you've said. Hope what you've mentioned regarding character based materialize in "The Cave" theme. For the past challenge, particularly "The Factory, Sewer and Family Crypt" there are no entries won with a combination of character and environment if the theme is environment. The judges really focus on the theme. This is based from what I observed.
