It might be laziness for some people, but for the most part having one month means limiting what you can do, before you even start, Rather than just being like "No" I don't think it would hurt to make a couple of competitions bi-monthly and just double the prize offering to see what the difference in the final outcome is.

mmmh noo....

if you are good skilled 3d artist you can do a lot of things in 1 mont...

modeling uv texturing a good scene could take only a weekend to me.

you dont have to model and render a whole city, is just a small scene with specific topic stuff.

to be honest if you are intermediate 3d artist you can make good things in 8 hours.

for render, even if your machine is very slow, you can render a good image in 4 hours..

1 month is a loooot of time.

To me this person sounds like someone that doesn't have a lot of experience working on his own and coming up with scene based off of a random 1 sentence description. Just consider that what 3D people have to basically do is everything (80% is effectively everything) a 2D person has a month to do BEFORE even jumping into a 3D application for everything to go smoothly. In addition to that (in some cases) there's probably school and/or work, kids, spouse. Working on a deadline for this kind of thing is really good, because it's independent but only -IF- the deadlines are remotely realistic given everything that's required.

If all you had to do was a head every month then ok, or if all you had to do was some kind of wheeled vehicle every month then that would be fine for a monthly challenge, but when it's completely random (which is a better creative decsion) a month just aint gonna get it. To me it seems like the proof is in the submissions (no disrespect intended) Every month it seems that the person that wins is a 2D person while more and more 3D people get disenfranchised. To me that just seems like the opposite result of what the challenges were intended for to begin with. Most people are trying to improve and that doesn't usually happen until the whole process is done and you have time to walk away from it for a couple days, maybe even two weeks or more and them come back and tweak it.

Hey HYS just one crit if i may...

try getting some more light into the scene, try final gather and global, the image is really really dark. It may render nice in your comp but in the web pic it's almost impossible to see. at some ambient light, fog lights might help witht he scene... like very down floor like fog... just a thought...

god luck
