Volumetric light in Underwater Dynamics DVD

Hi guys, i just borrowed the Underwater dynamics DVD from Gnomon Workshop from a friend because we have to do a project in maya for college that envolves this kind of stuff.... The question is, i've scene the intire tutorial and there is nothing on how to setup this light, wich when i saw it on the dvd the instructor already the light set there, ready. I've looked all over the internet, and there is no hints on how to do this for maya software rendering (it has to be since i'm gonna be using painteffects). Any hints you can give me please?

hello, could you please tell me how did u figure out to solve that problem,
I also have that tutorial too, but i just figure out it using the light fog for the spot light,
but i have no idea what is the next step for this light could make looks like that...
