Default August, 2016: Fantasy Salesman

Hi all...

Want to buy some potions? How about mana? Treasure maps? Newt eyes? A sword that can cut through dragon scale? Whether they are a legitimate businessman or a swindler trying to con you out of your gold, you can always count on finding a seller of useful and dangerous items in any fantasy epic! This month's contest requires you to design a creative scene with a fantasy salesman!

Good Luck!

Default Is redesign possible?

HI! I'm new at this site, and so I have a question: does the image has to be 100% original? For example, can I redesign the concept of a character of a book? Or does it have to be made totally out of my imagination?

Thanks!

Well, I would think it would be best if was your own idea.

I mean of course I'm not a prof/board admin, and maybe they'd be okay with ripping someone's work; however, I don't believe so.

If you choose to build off of someone's visual ideas, than you would need to do a ton of research, making tons of additions and subtractions through iteration before calling the result your own. So why not just mind-map to create your own visual ideas?

Of course working off of cliche is a tool, especially if everyone agrees that a certain type of character has a certain type of look to be loosely adhered to, but Concept is key, and often it is considered as important as great execution.

Seems these forums are deserted, for some reason...
Anyways here's my entry, for what it's worth:

Cheers,

Chuck, Mate. I remember you from the old conceptart.org forums, when the weekly challenges were in their golden days (I have no idea what's happening there these days but I know for a while it was a mess). Anyway, just wanted to say hi and say good work! You'll start seeing more entries roll in at the end of the month.

Hope all is well.

Hey Ray, thanks. nice to be remembered. I kinda abandoned CA a bit before things got bad.
I just didn't have fun there any more, dunno.

Hope to see lots of great art here before the month ends.
