Default My Smaug

Well Smaug is supposed to be a bad guy ...
My vision is much more a cartoonish character that does not look so scary.

Dragons lairs are full of gold .... the treasury is needed for Smaug comfort I guess.

Here is my submission. Unfortunately I can not spend anymore time on it as I leave for some deserved holidays on friday.

I have used Zbrush mainly for modeling and several renders. Composition in photoshop.

Please I need your comments.
(Excuse my approximative english)

Here is my submission for this month:

Default Red Dragon.

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to do the project this month, but it turns out that the project was in line with several key aspects of my artistic ambitions.

First off, I studied and practiced Scott Pattons 3D Character Design videos, volume 1 and 2. I utilized my interpretation of his pipeline for this project. I've got to say, Scotts videos are the cools videos I've seen in a while!

Second, I've embarked on an indy project doing illustrations for a short story, and a red dragon is the perfect creature to incorporate into one of the images. It represents the alter ego of a seductress that approaches the "hero" in his dreams.

As usual my confidence in this piece is wavering, but all we can do is submit what we've got. I hope you all are challenging yourselves, and growing as artists every day! I look forward to seeing your work! Good luck!

Default Death of Smaug The Golden.

Nice entries, Parms and Reverie! It is so cool to see such a different styles challenging each other: humoristic from one point, kind of enigmatic (sorry, don't know english to much, cant emphasise my thoughts ). So, now i'm adding my point of view - i'd like to call it dramatic.

The moment of the impact of Black Arrow is when Death found Smaug the Golden!

@Reverie - the model looks great, but the background look bad, you do something different i feel, its too simple and not as good quality as the dragon.

@Jazz - the dragon is flying, so maybe some minor motion blur may help?

Jazz - Are those wings 3D or 2D?

gaf, i was thinking of that, but then was told not to do it. Guess just have to try with or without blur.

Wicked, they're 3D. But i get it, it's not looking that way. I have real trouble with texturing and lighting so far...

Thanks gaf! I really appreciate the advice. I think you were exactly right. I updated it to look a little more interesting. I still want to keep it simple. My main concern is that it doesn't detract from the model.
