Default Matte Painting Showreel 2012 | Jacek Irzykowski

It is finally done. This is my first showreel and now I do understand how much work does it take to actually create one of those. Paintings you see here have been created over period of one year since I decided that this is what I want to do from now on. There is still lot to learn but I do enjoy it immensely. The showreel and its contents were primarily produced in Adobe Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere. 3d parts were modeled and rendered in 3d Studio Max using VRay rendering plugin. Projections were created in 3d Studio Max and Nuke. I hope you will enjoy watching it and please leave any comments or questions you might have. Thanks for checking out.

Great stuff! But are you sure about the music? The animations of your work flow are pretty fast, so the relaxing music is a big contrast. A little too big imo...

Thanks for your comment Gaztoro. Music for matte painting showreels is a subject of debate on many forums, actually for any reel in VFX area. I started with dynamic tune tighter edited with the video but that was criticized - for example on mattepainting.org. After some research I realized music doesn't really matter for this type of work where only visual content is the most important. Music is there for you to fill the silence or to be silenced ( lot of people watch showreels without any sound )

Yeah of course there isn't THE right music for something like that, but I wouldn't say that it doesn't matter. If you put music in it, it does matter. Even if there is no direct impact on the quality of the shown work, you get some kind of a audio-visual experience by watching the showreel. And therefore I would choose some music that supports the video/editing.

But that's just my point of view, if you just want to fill the silence, any music you like is okay
