Default WIP - Mountain Temple Challenge

Well, I guess it's about time to share some WIP images with you guys.

I've been working on this for about a week now. Everyday a couple of hours after work. I've not worked with Maya for a couple of weeks now, but I'm getting there again.

I just spent about 5 hours on cleaning up the scene and creating UV maps... *sweat*
Seriously people, creating UVs while modeling is definitely the better choice. xD

My main concern on this project is the mood and lighting, I seem to always be a little off there, so that's what I'm concentrating on this time.

Hope you like it. I'm always open to comments!

Greetz,
Alex

ps: I know, everyone's making more of a snowy/deserted kinda setting, but believe me, my temple is still on a very high, very jungly mountain.

Here's a late night update for you.

I just spent the last couple of hours on adding damage and variation to the scene. I'm not quite sure if it's gonna pay, but I hope it will add some life to the final scene and pull out some of the 3D-cleanness.

I also changed the lighting a little bit and tweaked the color of the palm trees.

Hope you like it so far! I'll get onto the texturing tomorrow, i guess.

Alex

p.s. I soooo need to get into zBrush! This would have been so much easier with sculpting.

And there comes another update...

Today, I started painting some textures. Man, I love doing that
There's no occlusion nor GI in the image to this point, I'll be adding those in the post to save some time now.

I got all the used textures from cgtextures.com. For all of you who don't know it: best free texture source EVAR! All painting was done in PS with overlays, dodge and burn.

Feel free to crit.

@ Hazart:
Hey thanks a lot.

Well, the colors are bound to change though. It's only a test checkerboard to this point. The dominating colors are supposed to be green/grey/blue, with some nice orange/yellow light and a couple of purple accents.
I hope you'll like it anyway.
The colors do look interesting right now, but I don't think I'll get far with a checkerboard mapped on an ancient temple. xD

@ Leser:
Good to hear that from coming from you! Thanks.
The competition is definitely tense and you never now what pieces of art will turn up just last minute.

I'll be posting another update later tonight.

Till then...

Alex

And here's the (almost) daily update.

I made some more textures for the temple today. It's quiet some work, but it's still fun.
Anyway, it's past midnight here already and I think I deserve a cool drink right now. xD

I hope you guys still like it. Tomorrow I'll hopefully finish the textures and get a good start on the floor. I want some leafs and dirt down there to make it look natural, but I'm not yet quit sure how I'm going to do that. ^^

So long!

Haha. Picture was so small, I couldn't notice the markings at first glance. Ofcourse you cant put it like that, but I still like the colorfullness that the checkerboard brings in. So often I see these kind of pictures with dull gray/blue scale for sake of somekind of dark emotion. So it was refreshing to see your vibrant checkers.
