Inspired by SMOD, Sweet Meteor O'Death, (https://mobile.twitter.com/smod2016) it could be fun to do a meteor or comet strike, impending asteroid strike, or impact crater, like from Shiva, Lucifer's Hammer, or Armageddon. It might work better as a 3D theme.

Default SCI-FI Literature

How about a scene from some classic sci-fi literature: Frankenstein, War of the Worlds, Solaris, etc. ?

Making sure not to copy from the movies. Maybe including a short descriptive quote of what you are painting?

Here's a list: https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/classic-sci-fi
