Default Frustrated: Herobuild Character problems

Hey guys im new to the forums and Im kinda jumping straight in to it, so forgive me if I missed on few code ethics that we usually follow. So im a dropout of 3D animation at Algonquin College in Ottawa. I wanted to find better high-end results and my school wasn't focused at all on any of the cool aspects I love about 3D. So I was told about this site and I registered to the tutorial contents for 500/yr deal. Im pretty much going through the rigging in Maya and I've encountered a problem. I was wondering if someone could take a look at it and tell me how to fix it.

Basically I was following the tutorial on spine rigging. I did it all pretty much up to the point where I enable the advanced twist controls on the spine_IK so I can use the clusters to twist my rig. The twisting WORKS, but... I rotate the X axis for it to rotate on its Y axis... Why is that? This makes it very frustrating and near impossible to animate with it.

I must add that the skeleton is created long time ago and I didn't undergo the skeleton creation tutorial because I feel I have a good grasp on it. Maybe that's where my problem lies?

I've attached the file in a zip. A million thanks!
