Awards Showcase

Default Question

I'm new to the Gnomon Workshop forums, and I'm excited about the monthly challenges. Does anyone know when they announce the new challenge for the month? February is a short month, even with this year being a leap year, so I want to get started as soon as possible. Thanks, and I look forward to the friendly competition.

Talking what's the theme for February???

ditto. What's the theme for February? Maybe "Love Hurts"? or maybe we can skip Feb and go straight to March "Leprachauns and Rainbows"

I love all the "tribute to___" contests. They give a specific direction but at the same time allow you to give your own interpretation of their technique in your own style.

Artists to be honored:
The Masters
van Gogh etc

Fantasy Masters

Comic book classics

plenty more on this category

Writers -Fantasy & Sci fi
all the writers that have made epic stories which inspire us all.

On an added note:
I know that you have been asked this so many times, that you have stickied it to the contest info thread, but I have yet to see it addressed......sooo
When will the contest be divided into category entries?
not complaining...just wondering if thats on the works.

I Agree with JL.Alfaro - I think tribute themes would be fun.

But also, what about something taken from a dream sequence - a dream image? There would be absolutely no boundaries for that one - ideawise- and it would be fun to illustrate some of the more strange dreams I've had. I'd like to see what others would do as well. Someone else may have already suggested this - but I haven't had the chance to look through all the suggestions yet.

Here are some more ideas I came up with:

"perfect for eachother"
"the feast"
"historical event/figure" (this world - or any other)

I could go on - but I'll add more later.

Perhaps a zodiac theme?

"simple pleasure"
"lost in translation"
"sleeping chamber"
"functional footwear"
"something wicked this way comes"
"new horizons"
"the clash"
"new religion"
"risky business"
"grilled cheese sandwich"

....just kidding about that last one. Thats what I'm hoping to have for lunch.

Anyhow, those are just a few very general topics that can be interpreted in oh so many ways. I think might be fun to see what everyone comes up with.

I am all for a master tribute theme one of these days, would be a great chance for some in-depth study and hopefully could produce some stuff a little out of the norm for most of us. Maybe even limiting the selection to artist from certain era's.

I don't know about a tribute to the standard fantasy and comic etc. 'heroes'.. but if it was simply a tribute theme then it could be interesting I guess.. I would be going for Beksinski
