July, 2012: Sky Fortress

Here is my entry for the month. I really wanted to go a different way with my Sky Fortress and went for something quite alien and something massive!

Thinking about insect nests, such as a bee hive or a monolithic termite mound, I realised that these structures are like fortresses to defend their queen and offspring from would be raiders. Taking this premise, I created this huge super hive that floats thanks to the many energy balls built into its organic hull.

I imagine the insects inside are about human size and that the swarm leaking from the holes are their winged soldier type. Deep inside, the queen of this locust like species, pumps out eggs in their millions and, the ground below, barren for hundreds of miles, has been picked clean by the ravenous scavengers.

Well, I guess this is gonna be my submission. I was inspired a lot by ww2 military aircraft and warships (I think those warships, like kirov class battleship are a lot nicer and have a lot cooler designs than nowadays frigates )

This magic fortress is used by faeries to protect their old hidden towns, giants bugs and birds keep it constantly moving... They face enemies with slingshots, and the fortress can help its inhabitants to spot air attack as its eyes are always open... they operate in perfect coordination as they need each other to survey...

My sky fortress became a sky city and then became a sky battle and then it went into space. I hope I didn't get too far off the topic. I think it came out decent.
