Default December, 2006: Winter Treehouse

Ok, time for the December contest...

The theme this month is to design a treehouse in winter... this is of course open ended as far as the type of 'house' and the type of tree, but I got the idea from this book that I recently found:

http://www.amazon.com/Treehouse-Book...e=UTF8&s=books

Now this can be a single house in a tree, a village in a bunch of trees (treetown), etc.

For those doing 3D, the best resources for building trees as a start point/reference are OnyxTreePro, Vue, Xfrog or Maya Paint Effects... Plus Ethan Summers did a cool paintfx DVD where he shows how to start with a PaintFX tree and then refine it using zbrush.

good luck!

edit:

Ok, so here are the winners!
Really amazing entries this time around, and with the holiday spirit and all, well... we couldn't just narrow it down to four.
Thanks to everyone who participated! We really enjoyed seeing your interpretations of this month's theme.

The winners will be contacted via the email used to sign up on the forum.
Happy New Year everyone...

-Alex

Wasker is right, this is very unpredictable. December should be Christmas theme, but for me it's totally ok.

Alex I would like to ask you a question. I was interested in doing some challenge work non-digital. I was thinking about entering with an image with puppets like in "Stopmotion", and I would submit a still. I have never done it before, so I would like to ask if this is ok has an entry to this competition, or if it has to be 2D or 3D Digital only?
You do have Sculpture DVD's, so... and I was really feeling the urge to try this out.

Best regards to all, and good luck!

Ricardo.

Any technique is acceptable.

So I tweaked the theme a little... a treehouse in winter.
that adds a little more seasonal relevance....

Cool book A.Alvarez, the design of the house on the cover is really nice. Looks like something worth picking up when I get some spare change

I don't have anything that fits into this category so that's gonna force me to come up with something specifically for this topic "which is a good thing" since I need more environment and architecture work in my portfolio. Plus, I love nature and trees are a great thing to marvel at.

Whenever I think of trees, Miyazaki comes to mind because of his love for great old oaks and large trees and nature which is evident in most of his animated films. "My Neighbor Totoro"

I don't know what the policy is as far as entering if you've already won once but I'd do it purely for portfolio reasons and motivation either way. I'm looking forward to what everyone produces for this. I guess I should get started on some thumbnails tomorrow.

Default Tree House submission

OK, since I started working on it prior to the addition of winter to the theme, here's my tree house. It's still a WIP, but I thought I'd throw it in the mix right away while I'm at a certain point.
