Hi all...

So the renowned vehicle designer Harald Belker is going to be releasing an awesome new DVD with us this month based on his killer new book 'Pulse'! So in that light I thought it would be great to see what you guys n gals can come up with. The context is totally up to you, be it ancient, modern or sci-fi. Of course, feel free to experiment with ideas other than the modern racetrack, be it an alien ice world, subterranean lava field, or deep sea canyon course.

Good Luck!

edit: winners announced!

Tarterus: That looks good, but you still have 24 days left so you have plenty of time to continue working on it :D

Interesting. I can't wait to see what worlds people design. I hope to have time for this one.

Participating this month. Requirements?

I've been watching the competitions for the last few months and I gotta say there are some really talented dudes out there.

Been hesitant to get involved for fear that I may be overwhelmed, but I've been practicing so I'm in this month. I love the theme too. I've never done a racetrack piece before, so this will force me to work outside of my comfort zone; that's probably one of the best "bi-products" of doing challenges like this. Forced mental capacity! Hahah.

Anyway, keep up the good work peeps. I'll be uploading in a couple days. I'm almost done.

Are there any specific requirements to submit an entry? Do I need to provide WIP's or a PSD file or something? I only ask because other forums require proof of inception and execution of concept; which I will be more than happy to provide.

none of them are really needed, just post your final image (jpg w/e) before the end of the month

Psypher101' Sci Fi Race Track

My first ever entry to a Gnomon Workshop forum challenge. I had a lot of fun with this month's theme. I had never done a "racetrack" before. Great challenge.

About the image:

My goal was to create a futuristic Sci Fi race track. Too often I see Sci Fi illustrations as dystopian and quite frankly depressing. I wanted show a type of beautiful Sci Fi getaway; Can I get a little Fhloston Paradise up in here? I used various photographs of Thailand for reference and texture.

The track itself was inspired by Hot Wheels toy tracks I used to play with as a childe (Who am I kidding... I still play with them).

The vehicle was inspired by one of my favorite video games; Wipeout. I do, however, have to give credit to one of my favorite Sci Fi artist's; Alexander Iglecias, aka flyingdebris, as I used his design, Hover Racer Thingy, for reference. It's not a 100% replication of his design, but without it I think I would have had trouble finishing my piece.

That's it. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working on it!

This is a topic I've been meaning to tackle for some time now, so thanks for the motivation and inspiration! I learned a few things along the way on this one, which is one of the great side effects of forcing yourself to complete something for fun on the side.

Good luck, everyone!
