Hi there, I'm not sure why my last post got messed up, but here is what I wanted it to say:

Hello all. This is my first posting to Gnomon Workshop forums. I have just finished my Sophomore year at Columbus College of Art and Design. This past semester was my first real introduction to Digital Painting, and I used it to experiment with several different methods. I would like a review of the following pieces, as well as my portfolio at:
https://ccad.digication.com/codyhanes
Basically I would like to know what skill level I reside at, in regards to 1) Technical Skills with digital painting, 2) The styles I employ: which are best, which should I focus on, and which ones need some work, and 3) Overall sense of color, composition, and design. Along with these, I'd like some advice on what direction I should go with my Illustration. I really appreciate any critique and I would just like to really figure myself out as an Illustrator this summer. Below are a few examples of my various styles when working digitally, and if you are so inclined, I'd appreciate it if you took a brief look over my portfolio linked above.

Hello Gnomon i have been waiting for some proper tutorial for creature design. I also brought all tutorials from the library, but seems they are not very helpful. Everyone of them are time lapse, what's the point of this videos that you guys always do. I just see videos moving really fast, no idea what's going on, and the author just speaking? I don't see something useful from these kind of tutorials.

Also the Making of, they are good, but question is how doe sit made something.

I hope some of the authors sees this topic. I really want tutorials where i can learn everything, from modeling, sculpting high poly character, uv, texturing etc, I really want to learn this.

Hey everyone, this was my final piece for my 3rd year university course
Would really love some constructive feedback, and be as brutally honest as you want :P

I have one year left at University and I'm desperate to improve and up my game over the summer, so that I can create a really ambitious final animation that I'm planning for my 4th and final year at university.

So please, all constructive comments are more than welcome.

A portrait of a dragon's head... i.e. the submission should not just be a head floating in space, but composed with some thought. Think about character, age and personality. Is this a an elder dragon whose age has tempered his might, or a blood thirsty warrior who seeks revenge? The scenarios are endless...

Hi all, recently I am tweaking my Character and I notice this problem that I have when I implemented the 'Stretchy' onto the legs.

By the way, I am using Autodesk Maya 2011 and the Stretchy method I have used are the nodes - namely DistanceBetwee, Condition and MultiplyDivide.
Additionally, I have made the inputs to be in the Y.

I have attached a picture of my problem in the thread.

Basically, the problem I have is whenever I have stretch the legs to a limit distance, the thigh joint/skinning will gets distorts in all direction.
I have sort of find a solution but it is not practical, being I have to move my poleVector to the opposite direction so that the distortion will ceased and revert to normal.

Personally I do not find this to be an ideal solution as I find that if say an animator is going to use my rig, this is a big hassle to 'play around' so as to get it normal.

As such, can anyone tells me how to settle this issue?

I have posted my file for easy viewing.

Greatly appreciate for any advices.

Hello everybody,
For a few years now I've been practising drawing creature concept art, whether it be by digital or traditional mediums and I'm here to attempt to improve my skills. When I first started drawing I was obsessed, I'd spend every waking moment of the day doodling and sketching and with that managed to move from cartoons on to at least slightly more 'realistic' creature designs; the problem is that I haven't got that motivation any more, I would love nothing better than to get good at this but I simply can't push myself to get enough practise in. That's where this thread comes in, I'm planning to start a drawing-a-day type of challenge for myself in which I'll update this thread daily with an image for critique, I'm hoping to carry this on for at least 30 days but we'll have to see how it goes, this project could crash and burn like many of my others. So yeah, I'll be using this thread to track my progress and find out where I'm going wrong, here are some examples of my past pieces (Not related to challenge):

http://monstahart.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4axnpg
http://monstahart.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4b0jzy
http://monstahart.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2wato9

I may upload one tonight however I may wait until morning to start...
Love to here some critique thanks!
