Hey, Alvarez, this seems to be extremly open ended am I rite? It's pretty much a personal definition of what 'the freak' is, being an adjective. ie, a freakish structure or a freak of a creature/person etc. Reply if you think I have got it all wrong. :D


Anyway, here's for the rest of you according to dictionary.com


Freak

1. any abnormal phenomenon or product or unusual object; anomaly; aberration.
2. a person or animal on exhibition as an example of a strange deviation from nature; monster.
3. a sudden and apparently causeless change or turn of events, the mind, etc.; an apparently capricious notion, occurrence, etc.: That kind of sudden storm is a freak.
4. Numismatics. an imperfect coin, undetected at the mint and put into circulation.
5. Philately. a stamp differing from others of the same printing because of creases, dirty engraving plates, etc. Compare error (def. 8), variety (def. 8).
6. Slang.
a. a person who has withdrawn from normal, rational behavior and activities to pursue one interest or obsession: a drug freak.
b. a devoted fan or follower; enthusiast: a baseball freak.
c. a hippie.
7. Archaic. capriciousness; whimsicality.

Hello people, this is my first post and this is my first entry for the May's contest.

Some words about my work.
This painting is based on the ancient Greek Mythology and the story of Tarachus.

Tarachus was the son of the Titan Nyx (Night) and Deity Freax (Freak).
Both Nyx and Freax were females...
Tarachus was half Titan and half God and by having that ability, no God or Titan could kill him. However he could kill both of them.
So, Gods and Titans, in order to protect their selves and punish the 2 ladies for their ' Forbidden Love', they decided to use the worst penalty.
Imprison Tarachus into Chaos (Ultimate Darkness, Father of the Titans).

Who said love stories have always a happy ending???

Normally you can link your image directly to imageshack. I use the browse button, select the image from my map, press 'host it' and copy- paste the .... part of the given link in this forum. I think it's called hotlink for forums...
Imageshack has a maximum filesize for uploading!

maybe try to put the images to a paid domain, not a free one. just right click and select properties to every shown image to see their hosting.

I do not know if I go to obtain... to explain ... right to you English mine bad hehehe. but I go to try. I have my (homepage). and with the images ,installed. in it. squeeze in the right button of mouse and I discover the address. through the propiets of the images...later fixture in the bar of reply where it appears (INSERT IMAGE)... Hi all:
heres my entry....I started by doing it in oils on canvas, then taken into photoshop.
Substancial overpaint of my original oil painting was then done. Photo reference was used for the grass in the lower foreground.
image still needs a few hours of cleanup and integration at this stage, but will submit what i have now, as I may not get time to finish this one off yet.
The branches on her head and integration of roots still need some work :-)
Was going for a freak of nature.....gasping at loosing her last leaf before winter rolls in.....
anyway...welcome any crits/comments or otherwise...cheers

My Freak was found in an dungeon somewere in Europe. Perhaps the freak was a singer before it was chained up....the people who found it could not decide if it was a female or a male, but the screaming sound from the freak sounded like some of songs that were popular in the eighties.

I still have trouble with my images; the quality is very poor and the caracters are not green in the original ( maybe because I resize twice to get size accepted ) and not so dark !

Amazing works, guys.

Kinda based on the Frank Miller character from Sin City, but not copied. I wanted to paint a guy that would seem more scary than the other guys from cell. I let go the details on the other character to leave just the white guy pop out, but I may have to add another detail pass on them today.... anyway I know I don't stand much chance, but I enjoyed making it.

only suggestion i would make is that the guys on the left dont seem to be quite as well integrated as the one on the far right........but a bit tricky as they are in deepeer shadow anyway.......hope it helps.......

warlord - hey, thanks for good words :) I edited it a bit, to make the guys on the lefs blend in a bit more, but as desaturated as they now I feel I can't doodle with the colours more, cause they would loose skintones... I added more green and blue to their shdows, maybe it helped...?

kernan - wow, thanks. I don't think it's the best, but maybe it stands out, because I am the the only one that didn't paint a monster recognizable on the first glance... that kind of guy among bullies, that don't want to sit next to him coud be a lot more dangerous than they. That's what I wanted to show. :) I'm REALLY glad you like it :)

The concept here is a dwarf child with the head of an old man, and a pair of cannibalistic umbilical buddies, is thrown away after his parents decide he's too much of a burden.

The bone in his hand (his favorite toy since birth) is used to play fetch with his cannibalistic twins. Unfortunately, these energetic ruffians have primitive brains and poor social skills. Thus, most of their time is spent hissing, and spitting, and biting, or staring at their brother's wiggling toes in utter confusion.

And Michal, your painting is beautiful. The concept and composition are masterful. Are you a professional illustrator by any chance? How you rendered the orange lights striking the bars, and scattering on the wall as green and yellow shadows is brilliant. Was this done all on a single layer? Amazing work regardless. pixelvenom - I'm a self-tought illustrator, I've been working for some time now in the games industry, but mainly in B/W character concepts. This is one of my most complex illustrations so far. A technical note - it was done on multiple layers in PS with different blending modes - multiply for bar and guys' shadows, overlay for colour, additional layers for pushing the colour more. Glad you like it :) It's a GREAT compliment. :)

Fast paced pen strokes, complex customized shortcuts, bleeding eyes, pains in the neck, unslept nights and nothing in our stomach but raging gastric acid. We all know how it is to live this kind of life, so I think it's time for you to take a hard look in the mirror and see your FREAK FACE. Peel off your lids and look hard. By now you should see the freak you've become. If you see nothing (and that's perfectly unsderstandable because you can't get your mind off your tablet and favorite software), then look at yourself in the image below :P That should hint you enough. Take a break dude, wherever you are, you need it.


P,S. Now go take a shower, cut your nails, change your socks, eat something other than chips and coke, take a nice nap and rememeber to take more care of yourself. Good Luck! ;)

I fixed a few things here and there - like the shadows from the bars and now gradually dissolving, I also accentuated the main character with stronger light... ANyway - I think it tighter and more logical now. Hope you guys like it.
