So the winners have been selected...
Congratz to everyone who participated, as everyone really made us happy with all of the amazing entries. We will be contacting the winners via email.

Please don't try to read our minds on why we selected who we did... we tried to find work that was creative, imaginative, well composed, well lit, and that showed a lot of potential for artist growth. We also tried to strike a balance between work that looked utterly profesional, and work that was almost there. Trust me, part of me wanted to just give everyone a prize, but we unfortunately can't. I did however decide to add three more winners. Instead of the original four, we now have seven winners! Thanks so much for participating, and we look forward to continuing to see more of your work... it truly inspires and motivates us.

The October contest thread will be posted very soon. :)

hi nice to see another Indian post but I like to say that your character is no way near Anil Kapoor ,I think you should improve a lot in Facial structures if you want it to look like anil kapoor .

Well my aim was not at all to recreate anil kapoor what i said was that the look of the character is inspired from anil kapoor the beard the clothing style.

I wanted to create something of my own something natural and the look of anil kapoor in the movie is what really gave me the idea. It was never about recreating anil kapoor dear. Hope i have made the point clear.

Even tho this is not a complete picture with nice composition and all, but I just want to show what I learned from the character modelling for production DVD. My dream as a young 17 year old enthusiast is one day to work for Blur so I was really really excited about these DVDs to see there production pibeline. Thanks!! they are gold worth! :)

Loved your Zbrush DVDs, this image was made in Lightwave, with some zbrush and photoshop.
You've probably seen it at CG Talk, but I have tweaked it since then, so this is a newer version.
I'm looking to get into maya now, so this prize would be very handy)

Hey,

Well this is my latest I created as a piece for an art show. The concept is mans interferance with nature, juxtaposing the hard manufactured nature of the modern world to the fragile beauty of the natural. I created it with 3ds max and vray render, post in photoshop.
I'm working on some more stuff like this for a film i'm working on, hope you like it :D

Hello from Bulgaria,
I'm 20 years old here some of mine stuff.
Here are pictures of my first interior. It is done with 3ds Max and Maxwell rendered:
1 (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/20378401/?qo=9&q=by%3Asinmania+sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps)
2 (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/21727136/?qo=7&q=by%3Asinmania+sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps)
there are some other my stuff with animations so you have to downloaded it or not here: sin_mania gallery (http://sinmania.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=72)
Some of them are made with gnomon's dvds, tuts help. But this stuff are still early projects.
I'm still learning and just make small stupid scenes for just check/testing the tools so they have a lot of mistakes still haven't make clean scene from start to end. I love work of Alex an all folks who helped him and admire them for taking from their creative time to learn other people.
PS: Sorry for my bad English.

But here's mine anway. I started a thread with this image, didn't see this contest thread. :o

My first NURBS project. One poly object consisiting of the panel bump on the main hull.
Most surfaces were derived from curves. The solar panels were birailed.
Stars, honeycomb, and hull/arm plating textures in PS. All other textures Maya procedurals.

Rendered in MR.

Lots of great artwork here!

Here's two of mine. The first is my latest art. Several piece modeled/textured in ZBrush then rendered in Lightwave.

The second was a piece that I did for the D&D contest on Deathfall.com last year. It took third and one of the prizes was 5 DVD's from Gnomon which I never received. (Anyone know how I can get a response?) I contacted them 3 times with no responses, so I hope this may be another chance! :)

hey, i'd like to submit these images on behalf of a friend of mine, dave davidson. he wouldn't submit them himself because he doesn't have the confidence in his work that i think he should. his website address is max 3d (http://www.max3d.org), and he's a really good 3d guy (in my opinion). i have asked him for permission to post his work, and he said 'yes, just to prove i'm rubbish'.

the two works of his i would like you to consider are 'firetruck', modeled in Cinema 4D and rendered in Maxwell, and 'Bench', modeled in 3DS Max and rendered in Fryrender (all these renders can be seen on dave's site, and hopefully will result in him joining up here and helping people out).

anyway, on with the pictures:

http://www.max3d.org/pictures/3d_pics/firetruck_render4.jpg

and the final composition

http://www.max3d.org/pictures/3d_pics/flashlighttruck1.jpg

and now for bench:

http://www.max3d.org/pictures/arch_pics/16.jpg

PLEASE NOTE: i am NOT trying to pass dave's work off as my own, nor am i expecting any prizes, etc. if dave does win something, it WILL go to him. he really just doesn't have any confidence about the quality of his work.

any queries about the veracity of this post can be sent to dave via his email addy at the max3d site, or to my pm box on this forum.

i'm doing this for his own good, he needs to get his work out among you guys, because that's where it deserves to be.

[edit] - it's a model of a toy firetruck, btw, not for people to ride in ;)

The inspiration......

These two renders were completed on a 3d course i took recently.

This was the assignment brief........

'Scientists and Astrologists have just uncovered a new, uncharted planet. This planet is made up of the same elements as our own: Oxygen, Nitrogen, etc. Now that the planet has been deemed safe (or so it may seem), a team of skilled professionals are going on a 'discovery mission' in the name of science and mankind. You have been asked to go along and serve as the team's photographer.

After only a day into the mission, you discovered a new species of animal, and you were able to get several photographs of it in its natural habitat. Unfortunatly, it ate the rest of the team members. So it's up to you to bring back the research, data and photographs of this 'thing', so the world united governing bodies can decide wether or not to colonise or nuke the entire planet...

Both modeled with maya... the piano is my first 3d object. it took me aprox... 40 hours just for the modeling! lol The diamond was maya and rendered with mental ray... I did this to try to understand caustics a little more.

qoute "this surely kills the johhny depp "

whats the criteria of this contest? a just good rendered object?
a good concept? will they consider if youre just a newbie?

as alvarez said
"this should not be seen as some sort of brutal competition. We love to see new artists emerge, and this seemed as a good way to give artists exposure, while rewarded them for their talents. The winners will be judged based on our producer's personal criteria."

I agree with celiksert,

As i understand it this is a new forum and its good to get some art work up on display to brighten up the place. I've been put off of entering the various online competitions in the past because most of the time they are too restrictive (or charge you money for entering). Who wants restrictions when your being creative?

I would rather use the word reproduction more than inspiration since you got everything , really everything from the loose planks against the right wall to the hanging cables in the opening, right on the spot from the concept painting and only som lost plaster on the left wall and a lamp in the ceiling is missing. Mentioned painting is also pictured in Q&A in imagineFX august issue. Your 3d model of it is well textured and rendered though.

nice, topology looks like it should be quite clean. however, it looks a little unfinished. i think it would look good with textures. i do hope you complete it, and with some really disgusting slimy textures, lots of scales and ooze.

Hi Vedran, and thanks for the support. I'm trying to upload my 3Dimage, but having a problem with the upload. I copyed the line from "Hotlink for forums" and paste it on "Upload File from an URL" but still geting Upload Error, saying "Invalid File". Am I doing something wrong here? Any help would be appreciated!...

copy the url of the image, then when you click the little yellow picture icon above the text input pane, paste the url of your image into the box where it says 'please enter the url of your image'. make sure you don't enter http//: twice. if you have the 'hotlink for forums' link, it should be the url with something that looks like hex on the end.

Well, I have some real 3D work, that I hope is allowed and appreciated in this forum. I do makeup FX and prosthetics, slowing working to become a monster maker. I like the CG stuff, but I'll still take good old makeup and animatronics for realism. Here's a study in massive disease/infection. http://www.jasonkrahn.com/DiseaseSite.jpg

Hi all!
Well, I did put in a 3D entry made in chavant clay already, but thought I could perhaps put in an all cg entry as well. This is a favourite character of mine that I scetched down roughly a while ago, and that I just completed in cg. It is modelled in maya and then the proportions where adjusted in zbrush, and the textures where made with photoshop.

I work part-time for a junior college media department. And we offer graphics, web, video, flash, 2D, powerpoint, and 3D. We have not had any request for 3D for over two years now. So I was really rusty, I created these images over the weekend . Because I was so rusty it took the whole weekend. But the chance to win gnomen's DVDs is well worth it!

Hi all,

here is my image. I've been trying to improve my modeling skills recently, but rather than leave the model completed but unused I wanted to create a piece of aviation art. The F15 Eagle was modeling in Maya - it does have the landing gear and a very detailed cockpit (it took me about 10 days), but I wanted to show the jets in flight. Rendered with mental ray, and textured/composited in phototshop (this bit seemed to take me forever).

1600x1200 version

Hi there, this piece is mostly based on a render

Ψυχή (Psyche)

http://www.phylax-computerkunst.de/psy_voll.jpg
http://www.phylax-computerkunst.de/psy_d2.jpghttp://www.phylax-computerkunst.de/psy_d1.jpg
The obelisks and the water are CG renders textured with photographs I took.
The Iris, the woman and the sky are photographs. The woman is composed of separate shots of torso/arms and legs. The feet aren't those of the model - actually they're mine (hope it doesn't show to much)

The inscription on the obelisks is a citation from anximenes:
οίον η ψυχή η ημετέρα αήρ ούσα συγκρατεί ημάς, και όλον τον κόσμον πνεύμα και αήρ περιέχει

in English:

Just as our soul is air an thus preserves our integrity, breath and air embrace the whole cosmos.

The Gnomon DVDs are great. I'm currently learning zBrush following the Instructions of Meats Meier. So thank you vrey much for this contest.

best regards

Phylax

I also got an edit lost, i darkened down the background, or rather middleground, on my bridgeguard image on friday or saturday, but now the image is back to the earlier version. Don't dare to fiddle around and do an edit on the posting, but this is how it was when i sent it in before the contest ended.

I would appreciate it if we don't get into a 'who should have won' discussion. There is a logic to our selections, and as stated in the contest info thread, the winners were selected based on the producer's 'personal criteria'. Some choose based on pure quality, and some choose based on potential. There is a balance.

grazie
